Say hello to UmoyaFunda

It is no secret that education in South Africa is facing enormous challenges. It is going to take some “out of the box” thinking to address these problems.

Umoya Funda has evolved from this thinking. It is based on the latest developments in technology, trends in social media, and brain-based education. It has been developed in response to demands coming from South African educators who face unique challenges. These teachers are under mounting pressure to deliver quality education, while at the same time finding themselves with increasingly fewer resources.

Umoya Funda is a holistic pedagogical solution that utilises technology — not for technology sake — but in a way that supports modern teaching and learning across every type of South African school.

Join us at the CTICC tomorrow Wednesday (8 Nov) or Thursday (9 Nov) at AFRICACOM – the continent’s premier ICT and telecoms event. We’ll be showing off UmoyaFunda – a revolutionary rethinking of ICT and EdTech in schools.

We’d like to invite you to refreshments and a presentation of UmoyaFunda, together with many of our partners in education, over the road at the Capetonian Hotel. We’re hosting four of them – two each day.

Wednesday: 09h30 and 14h00
Thursday: 09h30 and 15h00

Choose one that suits you, and RSVP to africacom@tellumat.com, call 021 710 2463, or leave a comment.

Hope to see you there!

Tweaking absentee stats

Year end is rapidly approaching and your student absentee lists are undoubtedly getting rather long. We’ve pushed a small update this morning that makes navigating this data a little easier.

First, we’ve improved the summary stats on Student QuickView to display Days Absent, Late and Left Early.

Second, we’ve “prettified” the detailed student stats page. Hope it helps.

Updated feature: Verification Forms

Just a quick update today – we’ve pushed some tweaks to our student and family Verification Forms.  They now look much better and manage to present more information on a single page. Schools usually send these forms to parents once or twice a year to confirm that the information is staffroom is still accurate.

Find them via Infobase → Classes → View → Print-outs, or from any class list.

Term Four 2011

This was originally published via email in our mostly-regular customer newsletter.

Hello friends,

Welcome back! Its the fourth term and despite a busy term ahead, Christmas is just around the corner. I hope you had a relaxing break.

New Website
We’re delighted to announce that our new site – www.mystaffroom.net – has gone live. It features a beautifully tweaked interface and updated information about our new features and services. We’d love you to share the link with a friend at another school. We’ve also established a blog through which Team Staffroom will be regularly sharing some thoughts on teaching, learning, technology, and staffroom.

Extended Support Hours
We know how much you love talking to our friendly Customer Support Nerds. Now you can do that from earlier in the day ‘til later in the afternoon. Call us for a chat on 0861 486484 between 8am and 5pm, or drop us an email to support@mystaffroom.net at any time of the day.

CAPS
We’ve got it covered. If you’re at an SA Government school, we’ll be visiting you to chat about setting up your Learning Areas for 2012. In the meantime, give us a shout if you have any questions or concerns.

Staffroom v4
Our developers have been burning the midnight oil to finish the brand new version of staffroom. Staffroom v4 is much faster, better looking and adds a bunch of features that you’ve been asking us to add. The best part is, we’ve kept the buttons and bits you’re familiar with in-place, so you’ll be comfortable using it immediately.

This new platform allows us to develop new features faster – and we have some exciting stuff in the pipeline. Watch our blog for updates.

We’ll be rolling v4 out to everyone over the two weeks. We think you’ll love it.

Best wishes for the term ahead!

Tim Keller
Founder
